Kerala Introduces Age-Friendly Digital Hubs in Village Libraries

To promote digital literacy among senior citizens, Kerala’s IT Mission has turned 50 rural libraries into “Age-Friendly Digital Hubs.” These centers offer free digital skill sessions, access to tablets, and one-on-one support in using smartphones, UPI apps, and government portals. Volunteers guide users in Malayalam, and weekly classes include cybersecurity, health apps, and video calling. Seniors now use the hubs to connect with distant family, access pension portals, and view devotional content. The hubs also host storytelling evenings and heritage sharing sessions that bring together youth and elders. The initiative supports active ageing in the digital age.
